Green Can Collection
On Tuesday, April 6, 2021, the City Commission approved moving forward with a fee-based system for the green cans, making them available to all City residents. These cans are used to collect green waste only and are emptied once a week.
We will be charging $6.00/month/can. The service is available from May through October. For those who sign up for this service, this fee will be added to your utility bill. Please call 222-5667 to order a can.
Each green can will be marked with an annual sticker. The sticker will allow the green waste collection drivers to know who has paid for the program. For those still in possession of a green can from last year, if you would like to keep it please come to the Public Works office at 330 Bennett Street to pick up a sticker and sign up for the program. For those of you who do not wish to keep you can call the office and we will send someone out to pick it up. For residents who do not wish to use the full service from May through October, there will be an administrative fee of $3.00 for delivery and/or pick up of green cans. This fee will be waived for late additions to the green waste program due to green can availability.
Please keep garbage, dirt, rocks and non-compostable material out of the green cans. Green cans filled with garbage will not be picked up. If they are dumped before our truck driver realizes there is garbage instead of yard waste in the can the whole load is contaminated and becomes regular garbage.
Please do not:
- Do not overfill the containers, our trucks cannot properly empty them
- Do not bag the clippings in these containers
- Do not put garbage, plastic, dirt, rocks, large limbs, or animal feces in your green container
- Do not leave debris on boulevard
Limbs that are in bundles and any large amounts of lawn clippings should be brought by you to our compost site, at the Transfer Station.
