Library Board of Trustees – Volunteer Opening

The Livingston Park County Public Library is seeking a dedicated volunteer to join its Board of Trustees. The Library’s mission is to enrich the community by providing access to information, content, and collaborative spaces consistent with people's needs.

About the Board:
The Board of Trustees is comprised of five appointed volunteers who oversee the operation and strategic direction of the Library, as authorized by Montana law. Trustees play a vital role in shaping library policy, ensuring financial stewardship, and supporting the Library’s mission to serve the community.

Appointment Structure:

  • Two trustees are appointed by the City Commission.
  • Two trustees are appointed by the County Commission.
  • One at-large trustee is appointed by the current four trustees.
  • Each trustee serves a five-year term and may serve up to two consecutive terms.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in regular Board meetings.
  • Provide policy oversight and fiscal guidance.
  • Advocate for the Library’s services and programs.
  • Support long-term planning and community engagement efforts.

Selection Timeline:

  • The Library Board will review applicants at their June 17 meeting and recommend a candidate to the City Commission.
  • The City Commission is expected to consider the appointment at their July 1 meeting.
  • The new trustee would officially begin service at the Library Board's July 15 meeting.

Qualifications:

  • Commitment to public service and the Library’s mission.
  • Ability to collaborate and work constructively as part of a governing body.
  • Residency requirements may apply, depending on the appointment.
