Why are we updating the Zoning Code?
Livingston’s zoning code plays a critical role in shaping how our community grows and evolves. It determines where homes, businesses, and public spaces can be located and establishes the rules that guide development. As our city grows and our needs change, it’s essential to ensure zoning regulations reflect the values, priorities, and vision of our community today.
Our current zoning code is outdated. It doesn’t align with the City’s adopted Growth Policy, nor does it effectively address modern challenges and opportunities, such as:

How can you participate?
Community feedback is vital to this process. You can review materials and share your comments through the links in the Story Map and though this link. If you have trouble submitting comments through those links, please email them to planning@livingstonmontana.org.
Initial comments submitted by Tuesday, September 9 will be compiled and addressed in the draft code presented to the Land Use Board on September 17. Comments will continue to be accepted until Friday, September 26, and will be considered in preparation for the draft to be presented to the City Commission on October 7.

The updated zoning code will also feature new graphics and visuals to make the regulations clearer and easier to understand for both developers and community members. Clear illustrations and explanations will help show how changes affect future building and development in Livingston.
