Get Involved: Run for Local Office in Livingston

City residents interested in serving their community are encouraged to consider running for elected office. Qualified electors may file now through June 16, 2025, by submitting a Declaration for Nomination and Oath of Candidacy at the Park County Election Office.

Available Positions:

Livingston City Commissioner
Filing Fee: $54.00
Three (3) positions are open for Livingston City Commission, each serving a four-year term. The current annual salary is $5,400.00.

Minimum Qualifications:

• U.S. citizen
• At least 18 years of age
• Qualified elector and resident of the City of Livingston

The City operates under a Commission-Manager form of government. The Commission serves as the legislative and policy-making body and hires a City Manager to oversee day-to-day operations. Meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of each month.

Livingston City Judge
Filing Fee: $592.45
One (1) position is open for City Judge, serving a four-year term. The current annual salary is $59,245.00.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Citizen of Montana and at least 18 years old (MCA § 2-16-102)
• Resident of Park County for at least one year prior to the election (City Code § 8-1)
• Must maintain an office and conduct business at the City/County Building
• Must execute a bond approved by the City Commission (City Code § 8-1)

Must meet the qualifications of a justice of the peace under MCA § 3-10-202 and be certified per MCA §§ 3-1-1502 or 3-1-1503

Important Dates:

• April 17, 2025: Candidate filing opens
• June 16, 2025 (by 5:00 p.m.): Candidate filing closes and deadline to withdraw from the primary election
• August 11, 2025: Deadline to withdraw from the general election
• September 23, 2025: Primary Election (if held)
• November 4, 2025: General Election

New Commissioner Training:
Training for newly elected City Commissioners will take place in December, 2025. All newly elected officials will take office in January 2026.
