Sister City Board of Directors

The mission of Sister Cities International is simple: To promote peace through mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation — one individual, one community at a time.

Sister Cities International was by President Eisenhower in 1956 at the White House conference on citizen diplomacy. Eisenhower imagined this new entity that could be “the hub of peace and prosperity” by creating bonds between people from different cities around the world. By forming these relationships, President Eisenhower envisioned that people of “diverse cultures could celebrate and recognize the value of their differences.” He predicted that the building of partnerships could decrease the chance of additional conflicts.

On October 21, 1991, the City of Livingston adopted a proclamation for a "Sister City" establishing a relationship between the City of Livingston and Naganohara Japan. The purpose of this proclamation was intended to strengthen the existing bond and establish an everlasting friendship between the two cities. Naganohara and Livingston promote the interchange of education, culture, encouraging the growth of goodwill, development of character and understanding different cultures.

Board meets the 3rd Wednesday each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Bev Stevenson meeting room at the Livingston-Park Co. Library. Meetings are open to all interested parties.
