SNOW ROUTE

The City of Livingston Public Works Department sends out their plowing and sanding crew when we receive 1" to 4" of snow or receive a request from the Police Department.  After 4" have accumulated we begin to plow our main snow plow route that is attached in a PDF file format.

Our snow removal equipment consists of
1 sander
1 plow with sander attached,
1 grader,
2 loaders
and 2 backhoes.

At times of heavy snow and drifting the entire Public Works team will work extended hours until the main route is cleared.

We normally don't plow secondary streets because the act of plowing would push snow against parked vehicles causing them to be blocked in.

In the case of drifting or excessive snow we assess each area in order to keep the streets as safe as possible.  Because of our excessive wind we do find that a route that we have just cleared may be closed up by the time we have cleared other streets and we must begin to clean the entire route again.

When we plow the main route we start very early in the morning, when vehicles are most likely not parked on the streets.  We will remove the snow to other locations when necessary.

When we sand our streets we use a mixture of regular sand with an additive called Ice Slicer.  This is an environmentally friendly, low-corrosion de-icing product that helps melt snow and ice quickly.
