Sewer Department

Livingston’s Sewer Department provides maintenance for 43.3 miles of sewer mains and lift stations throughout town. This infrastructure delivers an average of one million gallons of waste water a day to the Water Reclamation Facility. Many of the sewer mains in use today were installed over one hundred years ago and require large amounts of jetting and root cutting maintenance to function correctly. Residential sewer is charged based on average amount of water used in the months of January, February and March of each year.
If you experience a sewer back-up, please call the Livingston Public Works Department first so that the sewer crew may check the main line.
The following is a list of items that cause problems for our sewer system. Please do not flush these items down the toilet:
  • Paper & Shop Towels
  • Vinyl, Latex, or Rubber Gloves
  • Sanitary Wipes of any type
  • Clothing
  • Wash Cloths or Towels
  • Diapers
  • Feminine Sanitary Products of any type
  • Chemicals, Oil or Grease

Notice to Plumbers
When sewer services are being cleaned or root cut contact our office immediately and we will respond to flush the main. This service is available 24 hours a day and ensures that the main will not backup. We can be reached Monday through Friday 7:00am to 4:00pm at 222-5667; after hours and holidays contact Dispatch at 222-2050.
