Ask yourself, Would you know what to do if a fire started in your home? Would your kids? Would their grandparents? Fires and burns are the 3rd leading cause of unintentional home injury and related deaths in the U.S.

HOME INSPECTION PROGRAM

The Livingston Fire department offers free home inspections for any of our citizens. We will come into your home or apartment to help identify common causes of home fires or other safety issues that may effect you. We will also assist you with developing an escape plan for your entire family.

Please keep in mind some of the more common problems.

General

1. Install and maintain smoke alarms on every level of your home and especially near sleeping areas.

2. Keep matches and lighters away from children. Store these items in a locked drawer or high away from the reach of youngsters.

3. Store flammable liquids in tightly sealed metal containers well away from heat sources. Gas vapors are easily ignited.

4. Be careful not to overload your home's electrical system. Frequently blown fuses or tripped circuit breakers are a common sign of overloading.

Kitchen

1. Never leave cooking unattended!

2. Always turn the handles toward the center of the stove.

3. Keep your stove and oven clean.
