Darren Raney, Police Chief, on his 20th Anniversary as of September 1, 2009 with the Livingston Police Department.
1). How long have you lived in Livingston (if not a native, what brought you here)?
Lifelong resident, 4th generation Montanan.
2). How do you spend your time (at work & play)?
Walleye fishing, camping, bicycling, spending time with my wife.
3). What do you like the most about our community?
Small town atmosphere, with a variety of down to earth people from all walks of life who live here because they want to.
4). Favorite Movie & Most recent book that you've read?
Don't have a favorite movie, Last book was Glenn Beck's "Arguing with Idiots".
5). What is most pressing issue/need in our Community?
Improving economic conditions, encouraging smart business development and growth with good paying jobs without significantly degrading our traditional lifestyle.
Darren is a lifelong Livingston native and 4th generation Montanan with deep family roots in Livingston and Big Timber. He has been happily married to his wife Stacey for over 25 years. She is also a Livingston native whose family has deep roots within the community. Both are Park High graduates, and together they have raised two children who are now grown.
Darren has been with the Livingston Police Department for more than 20 years, starting in 1989. He has held many positions within the department including patrol officer, investigator, sergeant and captain before being appointed chief of police in 2000. He was also a DARE instructor for 10 years.
Darren is an avid walleye fisherman, spending as much time as possible on the waters of several large Montana reservoirs and elsewhere. He enjoys traveling and camping with Stacey and their dogs, usually incorporating these trips into a fishing excursion.
