Livingston Building Department
The Livingston Building Department reviews plans and performs inspections using the International Code Council's International Building Code (IBC) and International Residential Code (IRC). These codes are updated and re-adopted approximately every three years. The 2009 edition of the IBC is currently in effect and the 2006 edition of the IRC is currently in effect.

In order to obtain a building permit, you will need to submit a completed application along with plans and specifications sufficient to determine that the project complies with the effective codes. Look here for a more complete description of the types of plans that you will need to provide.
Permit fees are based upon the cost of your project. The fee for a residential project is determined using this chart and then adding a plan review fee of 65%. Commercial projects are charged a flat fee of 1.5% of the cost of the project with no additional plan review fee.
Please keep in mind that the City of Livingston does charge impact fees for any project that increases the service demand on the City's existing systems. This will apply to most new construction as well as any increase in size of a commercial building. More information on residential impact fees can be found here. Commercial Impact Fees can be found here.
